Australian Sentenced to 500 Lashes in Saudi Arabia
Mr Almaribe arrived in Australia in 1999 from Iraq as a refugee and brought his family over 2006.
Mr Almaribe is a Shi'ite. Saudi Arabia is 95 per cent Sunni Muslim.
His wife Waffa collapsed in tears when she heard he would be lashed 500 times and serve a year in jail.

Saudi authorities change name of Masjid Fatimah
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: Jeddah authorities have changed name of a mosque called ‘Masjid As-Sayedah Fatimah (s)’ to ‘Masjid Ar-Rahmah’ saying that ‘Fatimah’ is name of the mother of that man who constructed the mosque and naming mosques after human beings name is not lawful, ebaa news reported.
